Justin Lawrence Brown, writing under the name Brown-Stephens, is a United States Army veteran with twenty-two years of service and four combat deployments to Iraq, serving with 1st Battalion, 41st Infantry Regiment; 1st Battalion, 16th Infantry Regiment; and the 25th Infantry Division in senior operational roles. His awards include the Bronze Star Medal, Meritorious Service Medal, and the Master Combat Infantryman Badge.

Following military service, Brown founded Staring Down The Muzzle LLC, an independent research and publishing organization examining human behavior, institutional performance, and system degradation under sustained pressure. He is the creator of multiple proprietary analytical frameworks and assessment instruments used to document cumulative load, constraint saturation, and structural failure in high-exposure populations. His work is non-clinical, non-diagnostic, and focused on descriptive system behavior rather than treatment or ideology.

His writing spans nonfiction and fiction, including work on intimate relationships, violence and murder as structural phenomena, speculative futures shaped by governance and technology, and scientific manuscripts currently in external peer review. He also serves as a blinded peer reviewer for behavioral and clinical science publications.

He holds an Associate degree in Criminal Justice, a Bachelor’s degree in Security Management, and an MBA in Strategic Leadership from the University of Louisville.
